Manufacture And Use

Silicon carbide (SiC) is smelted in a high-temperature resistance furnace using quartz sand, petroleum coke or coal tar, and wood chips as raw materials. Silicon carbide is also known as moissanite. Among contemporary C, N, and B high-tech oxide refractory raw materials, silicon carbide is the most widely used and economical one. It can be called corundum sand or refractory material. At present, industrially produced silicon carbide can be divided into black silicon carbide and green silicon carbide, both of which are hexagonal crystals, with a specific gravity of 3.20 to 3.25 and a microhardness of 2840 to 3320 kg/min.
